Support Programs

In today’s world there is a requirement for Owners and Managers to be compliant with an ever increasing level of legislation. It can be quite difficult to be constantly up to speed with the legislative requirements but a failure to do so can under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work act 2005 result in owners and managers being personally liable, incur fines up to €3m or 2 years imprisonment.

There is a requirement to :

  • Train and supervise Your staff in Food safety And Health & Safety
  • Maintain a HACCP plan and a Safety Statement.
  • Calibrate all temperature probes in use
  • Audit your premises

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland reported a 12% increase in enforcement orders in 2011, served for breaches in Food Safety legislation.

The Health and Safety Authority plan to carry out 13,250 inspections of work premises in 2012.

If a court proceeding is taken against you the information gathered in the support program will be used in a court of law to demonstrate due diligence and defend the action

All the above programs include:

  • receive signage to indicate to the public that this premises is audited and conform to the Quality Safe System.
  • have access to the members area in the Alcam website. The area will contain useful info such as the companies monitoring sheets that can be printed off, training certs,
  • avail of free phone and online support that managers can use to ask questions.
  • free newsletter updating owners and managers of changes to legislation and other topical information.
  • updates on inspections by the authorities.

Retail Support Program

This program provides the following:

Annual Food Safety

  • Annual design of your HACCP plan
  • Up to 20 staff trained in Basic Food Hygiene Level 1 Webinar Training Session
  • Level 1 Food hygiene certificates for all trained staff.
  • 2 Hygiene Audits in accordance to IS 341
  • Annual Calibration of 2 Thermometer probes
  • 2 Microbiological Swabs of either equipment, Work surfaces or personnel

Annual Health & Safety

  • Annual Update of Your Health & Safety Statement
  • 2 Health and Safety Audits in accordance with the 2005 Safety Act and the General Applications 2007
  • Up to 2 training sessions in Manual Handling and People moving if a Nursing home
  • UP to 2 training sessions in Health and Safety

Note: New Clients will be subject to an initial charge to bring their existing Documentation up to an acceptable standard

Forecourt Support Program

All forecourts are required to comply with legislation and a failure to do so can result in closure as has happened in many situations.

The Legislation that must be complied with is as follows:

  • Safety, Health & Welfare at Work Act, 2005
  • General Application Regulations 2007
  • DANGEROUS SUBSTANCE ACT 1972 and 1979 and the Dangerous Substances (Retail & Private Petroleum Stores) Regs 1979 to 2004,
  • AIR POLLUTION ACT 1987 and the Air Pollution Act (Petroleum Vapour Emissions) Regulations 1997
  • FIRE SERVICES ACT 1981 and 2003
  • EU ATEX 1999/92/EC Directive

The Alcam program will ensure you are compliant by providing the following

  • Prepare a site specific safety statement and update yearly or sooner if necessary
  • Prepare Emergency Plans and train staff
  • Train staff in the running of a forecourt
  • Prepare an Explosive protection document under the ATEX regulations and review and update on an annual basis or sooner if necessary.
  • Included in the price is a free phone and online support
  • Also included is the section entitled Food Safety Program as outlined in Retail Support Program above.
